Cathodic
Protection System
cathodic protection (CP) with galvanic anodes works by
sacrificing a more reactive (active) metal to protect a less reactive
(noble) metal, such as a pipeline. The sacrificial anode corrodes
instead of the pipeline. This is done by intentionally creating a
corrosion cell, where the sacrificial anode acts as the anode (negative
terminal) and the pipeline as the cathode (positive terminal). The
current flows from the anode to the cathode, preventing the pipeline
from corroding.
